PLEXIGLAS® molding compounds: Quality management system successfully certified according to IATF 16949:2016

  • Production sites in Worms (Germany), Osceola (USA) and Shanghai (China) certified according to IATF 16949:2016
  • Molding Compounds Product Line meets demanding quality requirements of automotive industry for sub-tier 1 suppliers

The Business Unit Molding Compounds of Röhm has successfully completed the certification of all three global production sites of PLEXIGLAS®, Röhm’s brand of polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA), according to the newly introduced quality standard for the automotive industry, IATF 16949:2016.

The certificates confirm that all quality management requirements reviewed as part of the audit were met at the German site in Worms for the production of PLEXIGLAS® and PLEXIMID® molding compounds, at the Chinese production site in Shanghai for the production of PLEXIGLAS® molding compounds as well as for the US production site of ACRYLITE® in Osceola and the administration site in Parsippany. The certification involved audits of business processes in various operative areas such as procurement, warranty management, IT, calibration, customer relationship management, supplier management, marketing, human resources, product development, process development, testing, quality management system, strategic planning, and sales.

“The certification of all our production sites to IATF16949:2016 is a resounding success for the entire business unit. This demonstrates that we have satisfied the requirements of a world-leading manufacturer of PMMA products for the automotive industry,” said Siamak Djafarian, Senior Vice President Molding Compounds at Röhm. “Naturally, clients in other industries will also benefit from the successful auditing and certification of all our processes, which shows that we refuse to compromise on the quality and reliability of our PLEXIGLAS® and ACRYLITE® molding compounds.”

During those multi-day audits, the auditors from the German Association for Certification of Management Systems (DQS) and from the SGS group verified that all processes of the Molding Compounds Product Line strictly follow the quality standards to meet the demanding quality requirements of the automotive industry for sub-tier 1 suppliers. Coordinating three audits for the production sites plus one satellite location called for some outstanding teamwork.

The new standard of the International Automotive Task Force (IATF) replaces the previous standards and certification according to ISO/TS 16949:2009, which will lose their validity in 2018, and combines the existing general demands for quality management systems in the automotive industry.

International Material Data System (IMDS)

The IMDS is the automotive industry material data system. It is a joint development of Audi, BMW, Daimler, Ford, Opel, Porsche, VW and the Swedish firm Volvo. Further manufacturers have meanwhile joined the community and talks are being held with others regarding their participation in IMDS.

In the IMDS, all materials used for car manufacture are archived and maintained. Only in this way is it possible to meet the obligations placed on car manufacturers, and thus on their suppliers, by national and international standards, laws and regulations.

Our Datasheets are published in the IMDS and therefore readable for all participators of IMDS.
