PLEXIGLAS® MOLDING COMPOUNDS FOR CONSTRUCTION & INDUSTRIAL APPLICATIONS

Construction and industrial applications need to look great for a long time while retaining full functionality. PLEXIGLAS® molding compounds make long-lasting applications possible and offer enormous design freedom.

BENEFITS OF PLEXIGLAS® MOLDING COMPOUNDS FOR CONSTRUCTION & INDUSTRIAL APPLICATIONS

PLEXIGLAS® molding compounds combine design versatility with longevity. Manufacturers of coextruded components for the construction industry can, for example, enhance components of other plastics with a colored and/or transparent polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) top layer to protect them against weathering. The material is also suited for extruded profiles for indoor and outdoor applications or for sheets that permanently retain their transparency in large-scale applications, such as roofs.

PLEXIGLAS® molding compounds from Röhm provide the following properties for construction and industrial applications:

  • Outstanding UV and weather resistance
  • High brilliance and transparency (92% light transmittance)
  • Absolute colorlessness, for precise and virtually unlimited coloring options
  • Long-lasting color stability
  • Easy to clean and high chemical resistance
  • Can be processed with all common thermoplastic processes
  • Good adhesion and compatibility during coextrusion with other plastics, such as ABS and unplasticized PVC
  • Highest surface hardness of all thermoplastics
  • High abrasion resistance
  • Suitable for polishing
  • 100% recyclable

  • Balcony railings
  • Furniture edge profiles with 3D effect

PLEXIGLAS® molding compounds make construction components last

PMMA products from Röhm are characterized by their unsurpassed UV and weather resistance, whether as an extruded component – from sheets to tubes and profiles – or as a top layer that protects other plastics, such as ABS or unplasticized  PVC, by coextrusion. Because PLEXIGLAS® is resistant to sunlight, it does not yellow or become brittle – highly useful in window profiles, for example. With a smooth, non-porous surface that is easy to clean, there is no chance for dirt to build up.

PLEXIGLAS® molding compounds for creative solutions

In architecture, appearance is just as important as function. PLEXIGLAS® provides the creative freedom for customized designs. Absolutely colorless in its initial form, the material offers almost unlimited coloring options, for example for a colored, coextruded layer on construction profiles. The colors remain stable long-term thanks to the material’s UV stability. When used as a crystal-clear top layer on other plastics, PLEXIGLAS® also creates a wonderful 3D special depth effect.

PLEXIGLAS® molding compounds for large surfaces

Components made from PMMA are lighter than comparable glass geometries. This reduces the effort and expense required for substructures and the installation of roofs, facade elements and skylights. Solid PLEXIGLAS® sheets can be produced in large-scale formats which can be shaped by thermal processes or, in special cases, by cold bending. Architects can thus bring their design ideas to life – from curved roofs and barrel vaults to building-hugging facade elements.

PLEXIGLAS® molding compounds support resource-efficient design

The construction industry challenged with saving resources and using them more efficiently. PMMA is generally a very durable plastic that permanently retains its high-quality appearance and is easily recycled at the end of its service life. In addition, PLEXIGLAS® proTerra molding compounds also help users to reduce their carbon footprint by containing mechanically recycled PMMA or by replacing fossil raw materials with ISCC-PLUS-certified raw materials – without sacrificing any of the material’s proven performance.

PLEXIGLAS® MOLDING COMPOUNDS FOR CONSTRUCTION & INDUSTRIAL APPLICATIONS
