PLEXIGLAS® MOLDING COMPOUNDS FOR LIGHTING
PLEXIGLAS® molding compounds are a high-quality plastic with extremely good optical properties, virtually infinite design freedom and high reproduction accuracy of even the smallest structures. They are an inspiring, high-performing and recyclable material for all kinds of lighting. The brand polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) from Röhm enables glare-free lighting solutions in interior design, extravagant designer luminaires, strong floodlights and energy-saving street lights alongside unmistakable car taillights and black panel displays.

BENEFITS OF PLEXIGLAS® MOLDING COMPOUNDS FOR LIGHTING
Polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) is one of the most transparent materials in existence. It offers optimum light-guiding properties and transparency, with a light transmittance of up to 92 percent – reduced only by the physically induced reflection loss of four percent each on the light entry and exit surfaces. Thanks to the excellent resistance to UV and weathering offered by PLEXIGLAS®, this high optical quality is retained permanently. Even after many years of use, the high-quality plastic remains as colorless and transparent as on the very first day, with no yellowing at all. This makes PLEXIGLAS® molding compounds an ideal material for all kinds of lighting application, including covers, diffusers, lenses and light guides.
Röhm’s comprehensive portfolio contains both light-guiding and light-scattering PLEXIGLAS® molding compounds with diffuser particles for edge lighting and backlighting. Additionally, molding compounds with increased heat deflection temperatures are available for applications with high long-term service temperatures. All products are characterized by their high reproduction accuracy of even the smallest structures and enable injection molding of lenses with extreme precision.

PLEXIGLAS® molding compounds inspire extraordinary light design
The brand PMMA from Röhm is an inspiring material for designers, because it offers a diverse range of optical properties, can be colored at will and boasts virtually unlimited formability. PLEXIGLAS® can be used to mold unique designer luminaires, and can also create atmospheric ambient lighting or fascinating light effects such as illuminated edges.
PLEXIGLAS® molding compounds for precise high-performance lenses
Depending on the product type, PLEXIGLAS® and PLEXIMID® offer outstanding transparency, a high heat deflection temperature and excellent processing properties for injection molding, such as good flow capability and high reproduction accuracy. All of this enables lighting manufacturers to produce high-performance lenses and light guides with molding compounds from Röhm.
PLEXIGLAS® molding compounds for high long-term service temperatures
PLEXIGLAS® Heatresist is a crystal clear PMMA molding compound with varying heat deflection temperatures for applications with high thermal loads. Developed specifically for applications with high long-term service temperatures, PLEXIGLAS® Optical HT is a crystal clear molding compound that offers both high optical quality and an increased heat deflection temperature. PMMI molding compounds, which are temperature- and light-resistant even over long operating periods, are also available for applications with high thermal loads.
PLEXIGLAS® molding compounds for pleasant light
PLEXIGLAS® Softlight and PLEXIGLAS® Edgelight with diffuser effect are the material of choice for components with absolutely even light scattering and light extraction – for pleasant, glare-free light. Thanks to the diffuser particles embedded in the material, there is no need to apply additional scattering foils or incorporate microstructures into the surface.
PLEXIGLAS® supports sustainable light planning
PLEXIGLAS® is sustainable by design. Firstly, PMMA is a very durable plastic that retains its high-quality appearance permanently, without yellowing or becoming brittle. Secondly, components made from PLEXIGLAS® are 100 percent recyclable at the end of their service life. This makes the PMMA from Röhm ideally suited to the circular economy for plastics. As a result, the material meets the sustainability requirements that apply to lighting concepts and architectural projects.
